AS DE CORAZONES
As de Corazones fue una suerte. Una suerte y un regalo. La directora Isable Coixet me eligió para amadrinarme en un proyecto de Nescafé, que para apoyar el cine español quería producir cuatro cortos hechos por directoras noveles pero amadrinados por conocidas directoras o actrices.
Nunca me había propuesto dirigir antes de que Isabel me animara a hacerlo, y reconozco que me sentí bastante insegura durante la mayor parte del proceso. Creo que siempre que me ha dado por dirigir me invade la sensación de ser una impostora, y de que los demás, el equipo, se van a dar cuenta tarde o temprano de que no tengo ni idea. Pero por otro lado, pocas veces me he sentido tan plena y realizada como dando indicaciones a los actores, o sentada frente al monitor viendo que aquello que he escrito y estaba en mi cabeza se hace realidad frente a mí en imágenes. Es maravilloso. Desde que lo probé con As de Corazones, creo que ya no podré renunciar a ello ni conformarme con que otros dirijan las historias que yo escribo.
En este corto me propuse tres cosas muy simples: que se entendiera, que se entendiera y que se entendiera. He visto demasiados cortos demasiado largos y pretenciosos que no se entienden. Por eso elegí una historia sencilla y decidí contarla de una forma sencilla.
Dicen que trabajar en cine con niños es muy difícil, pero no lo fue con Maya. Realmente fue una suerte dar con ella, rodar con ella y conocer su historia (la niña había sido abandonada con tres años en las calles de Katmandú, con una hermana pequeña a la que cuidó hasta que las autoridades la metieron en un orfanato y fue posteriormente adoptada por una valiente y soltera mamá catalana). También fue un acierto rodar con el resto de los actores y por supuesto con todo el equipo. Más que una suerte, fue un lujazo poder estrenarme en la dirección rodeada y arropada por gente tan profesional y, encima, con un presupuesto poco habitual en un cortometraje (¡y menos en el primero!)
Poco imaginaba yo, además, que el corto me proporcionaría tantas alegrías una vez hecho. En cuanto entró en el circuito de festivales empezó a ser seleccionado, lo que me permitió viajar a lugares que ni sabía que existían, conocer el divertido ambiente de los festivales de cine de provincias, relacionarme con otros cortometrajistas y ver un montón de cortos. obligarme a perder el miedo a los micrófonos, ya que en muchos festivales tuve que presentar el corto al público, entrevistarme con el periódico o la radio local y, en el mejor de los casos, recoger y agradecer un premio. Ayer le escribí a tu hermana para haceros llegar mis felicitaciones, ya que no me gusta utilizar estos medios para comunicarme, pero finalmente he creído mejor envarte a ti tambien esta nota. Puede parecer extraño que a estas alturas recibais esto, pero ha sido ahora que me he encontrado con vuestro trabajo artístico y simplemente os lo quería hacer llegar a título exclusivamente personal, como tantas otras personas tambien lo harán.
